Getting a job doing post production

1. Be proactive. If you run out of stuff to do and you can’t think of anything, ask your editor if there’s anything you can help him/ her with.

2. Don’t walk in the editor’s room without a pad and pen. Also, if you’re starting out and are under a lead, carry a pad and pen with you everywhere.

3. Listmaking. I keep a list of tasks I have to accomplish and check them off as I go.

4. Always shine–take every opportunity to shine. Bottom line: It’s always hard to find good people/ assistants, so if you do well with the little things, people will be more willing to give you more responsibility (which leads to more opportunities). Make yourself indispensable.

5. Be nice. No one will go the distance for you/ help you if they hate you.
